Space Battleship Yamato: Series 2 (Miyagawa, 1978)

This post continues the overview of the Sound Almanac releases of the score and arranged music to the Space Battleship Yamato ("Star Blazers") television/film series.  The first post covered Series One/Symphonic Suite Yamato and the second covered Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato (Score and Symphonic Suite).

After the success of the film "Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato", it was decided to decompress the story into a full 26 episode television series - basically the reverse of what was done for the first series.  This had the advantage of fleshing out and expanding many character arcs, as well as providing a more upbeat ending.  Much of the music of the series was tracked in from the previous soundtracks (including some edits from the two Symphonic Suite albums).  Over 2 hours of new additional music was recorded before production began and used where needed as the series was produced.  Some of this music was released on 2000's Eternal Edition 4, but the 2012 Sound Almanac edition expands the released material to 2 CDs.

Below are notes to the initial appearance of each of these new cues in Series 2.  For the most part, previously introduced themes were developed in these cues, with a few cues near the end being more dramatically-expanded to fit the TV sequence.  In addition to the previously-recorded music, a few tracks from "I Adore the Eternity of Love" (a so-called "disco Yamato" release) was also included in some key action sequences.
